Safety Guidelines

Safety guidelines help ensure that all group outings are safe, respectful, and responsible. They're designed to protect both participants and the environments we visit by promoting awareness of park rules, minimizing our impact on wildlife, and encouraging ethical behavior in the field.

When we're out in the field/wild, we ask that participants:

  • Leave no trace — pack up everything you bring, and avoid picking or damaging plants.
  • Follow all park or site-specific rules (including staying on trails where required).
  • Respect wildlife by observing from a distance and not feeding or disturbing animals.
  • Be mindful of group safety, including weather awareness, hydration, and sticking together.
  • Ask before touching or collecting anything, and follow local laws on specimen collection.
  • Use field guides or ID apps thoughtfully, avoiding assumptions and asking questions when unsure.
  • Support a welcoming and curious environment, where all questions and observations are valued.

Please be on the lookout for any field/location-specific guidelines prior to any trips.
